Illustrator/aspiring Author based in London
Hi there, welcome and thank you for visiting my site.
I currently work in London, UK as a freelance fashion and advertising Video Editor and 2D Motion Designer ........ AND I'm also an Illustrator and aspiring children's book Author. (If you're interested in my video or motion work please head over to my sister site http://www.heatherdorothy.com).
Like most artists, I have my fingers in many creative pies! Since I can remember I have always drawn and written, this has always been my passion, my hobby and something that weaves it's way through all of my work. Being a video editor for over ten years has embedded storytelling and narrative into everything I do and I am always creating stories through my video, drawing and writing.
After studying Art at A-level and not being naturally encouraged to pursue it as a career ("you won't make any money" "you won't get a job doing that" etc), I decided to study History and English at Reading University. I loved my three years there and came out with a First class degree. My passion for art never subsided however, creating drawings for friends birthdays, artwork for my bedroom walls, calendars for my twin sister and arty gifts for the boyfriends in my life.
In 2016, my daughter Ava was born and this is what gave my art hobby focus and brought me back to my art and storytelling through drawing and writing instead of the day job I had come to know.
I began to read to her from 8 weeks old, revisiting many of the greats from when I was a child and learning about new authors and illustrators today. Some stories we read together are awe inspiring, creative, funny and a joy to read and I found myself creating my own stories and exploring my imagination with Ava in our daily routines.
It was at some point from her being born, to being on a plane for our first family trip away, my first story came about. Since then, a second and a third story have come to life. All of which I have been working on, illustrating, writing, reading, re-writing, re-illustrating etc.
And it is now, I am building my portfolio in illustration to one day share my stories, drawings and characters with everyone else. I favour pencil, ink, watercolour, gouache and digital mediums. I am always taking illustration courses and learning every day through experimenting and drawing (being completely self taught my motivation is always high!).
If you're here at the bottom, thanks for reading and if you have any questions or just want to say hi, please feel free to drop me a message.
Love Heather x
